The Bangalore Battalion were an auxiliary regiment.

Chronology

  • 1868 raised as the Bangalore Rifle Volunteers on 31st November[1][2][3]
  • 1884 some detached companies separated to form the Coorg and Mysore Rifle Corps on 21st November[4]
  • 1903 one detachment separated to become the Kolar Gold Fields Rifle Volunteers on 23rd January[4]
  • 1917 amalgamated with the Coorg and Mysore Rifles to become 6th Bangalore, Coorg and Mysore Battalion on 1st April[4]
  • 1920 redesignated on 1st October as the Bangalore Battalion [4]

Armoury Building in Bangalore

The Armoury Building of the Bangalore Rifle Volunteers, built in Bangalore around the turn of the century, also contained a Billiards Room, Reading Room, Ladies Room and a Bar on the ground floor and the Regimental Offices, Stores and other rooms on the first floor. It was electrified, had a stage as well as an orchestral pit and served as a glittering space for concerts, dances and finally, the movies.[5]
