The Fourth Anglo-Mysore War (1798-99) was between Tipu Sultan ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore and the Madras Presidency of the British East India Company.
When Napoleon landed in Egypt the British decided to eliminate Mysore, the French ally in India. They laid siege to and finally stormed Seringapatam. Tipoo Sultan was killed, more territory was ceded to the British and Mysore became a princely state of British India.
