Chronology
- 1803 raised as 22nd Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry following 1796 reorganisation when previous 22nd became the 2nd Btn 3rd Regiment
- 1824 2nd Battalion became 44th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under Major E C Browne
- 1857 mutinied at Agra 31 May
In 1861 after the mutiny the title was taken by the 11th Sylhet Local (Light) Infantry which later became 44th Gurkha Rifles.
