Major-General Sir John Malcolm (1769-1833) was an East India Company soldier and statesman who came to India in 1782 as a cadet. He served in the 3rd Mysore War and the 4th Mysore War and held various diplomatic posts. He was Ambassador to Persia, Resident of Gwalior and Governor of Bombay. He commanded the army in the 3rd Maratha War.
