History
The section from Bangarpet to Chintamani to Chickballapur was opened in 1916; this line linked Bangarpet to the Kolar Gold Fields Railway (10 miles/16km) that the Mysore Durbar had opened in 1894. The total length of the line then became 64 miles/102km. [1]
The line was further extended in 1918 from Chickballapur to Yelahaka and on to Bangalore (38 miles/62km).[1]
The section from Yelahaka to Bangalore was subsequently dismantled.[1]
