The Wazirabad-Multan Railway was under survey in 1892 by Paget Patrick Dease, Exucutive Engineer from the the Public Works Department (PWD) [1].

The Wazirabad-Lyallpur State Railway section was under construction in 1894 with Henry Herbert Gahan, PWD, as Superintendent of Works [2].

This broad gauge(BG) railway became the North Western Railway(NWR) 'Wazirabad-Khanewal Branch Line'.
