Dacca-Aricha Railway Project
Dacca-Aricha Railway Project
There was a proposal to provide a through route to Eastern Bengal by upgrading the Eastern Bengal Railway(EBR) ‘Goalundo Branch Railway', crossing the Ganges River by Steamer and constructing a railway from Aricha, on the eastern bank of the Ganges to Dacca.
This project was abandoned in 1935 [1][2].
Comment
the 'Goalundo-Narayanganj Extension Railway Survey' had been undertaken by the Eastern Bengal Railway(EBR) during the period 1894-98. The record states “the object of connecting Calcutta with the Assam-Bengal Railway”. The line was not constructed and is a previous failure to provide a connection to East Bengal
