One Officer and 46 NCOs and men were drowned crossing the Cabul River and a further 38 men died of cholera on the way back to Rawal Pindi, when an outbreak set upon the Regiment in the Khyber Pass. There is some detail of the tragedy in the Cabul River and the cholera strike in ''A Short History''.
