  • 1824 became 23rd Regiment of Madras Native Infantry (Palamcottah Light Infantry)
  • 1885 became 23rd (Wallajahbad) Madras Native (Light Infantry)
  • 1901 became 23rd (Wallajahbad) Madras Light Infantry
  • 1903 became 83rd (Wallajahbad) Light Infantry
  • 1922 became 4th/3rd Madras Regiment
  • 1923 disbanded
  • 1942 re-raised
