  • 1685 raised as the Earl of Plymouth's Regiment of Horse and ranked as the 4th Regiment of Horse
  • 1687 renamed the 4th Regiment of Horse
  • 1746 renamed the 3rd Dragoon Guards
  • 1751 renamed the 3rd Regiment of Dragoon Guards
  • 1921 renamed the 3rd Dragoon Guards (Prince of Wales's)
  • 1922 amalgamated with the 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers) to form the 3rd/6th Dragoon Guards
  • 1928 amalgamated with the Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons) forming the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers and Greys)
  • 1971 became 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen's Bays)
  • 1921 retitled The Queen's Bays (2nd Dragoon Guards)
  • 1959 amalgamated with the 1st King's Dragoon Guards to become 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards
