Chronology

  • 1765 raised by HEIC as 3rd Bengal European Regiment by division of The Bengal European Regiment
  • 1783 renamed the 3rd Bengal European Battalion
  • 1796 renamed the 3rd Bengal European Regiment
  • 1798 absorbed by 1st Bengal European Regiment and 2nd Bengal European Regiment
  • 1854 reformed at Chinsura as 3rd Bengal (European) Light Infantry
  • 1858 taken into the British Army as 3rd Bengal Light Infantry
  • 1861 renamed 107th Regiment of Foot (Bengal Light Infantry)
  • 1881 merged with the 35th Regiment of Foot (Royal Sussex) and became 2nd Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment
  • 1966 merged with four other regiments to form The Queen's Regiment
