A zone of Indian Railways (IR), '''Central Railway''' was formed on 5 November 1951 from the merger of the [[Great Indian Peninsula Railway]], the [[Nizam's Guaranteed State Railway]], the [[Dholpur State Railway]] and the [[Scindia State Railway]].
In 1966, parts of CR were combined with portions of [[Southern Railway]] to form the ninth zone of IR, [[South Central Railway]].
