'''Cossipore''' , to the north of [[Calcutta]], was the location of the East India Company's gun foundry. In 1801 a Gun Carriage Agency at Cossipore, (presently known as Gun & Shell Factory, Cossipore) was eatablished and production started from 18th March, 1802.
