Originally named the ‘Tirhut Railway’ it was a temporary famine relief line between Dalsing Sarai northwards to Samastipur to Darbhanga, 38 miles(61km), opened Nov 1875.
In 1886 the ownership transferred to the Government of India(GoI) and became the Tirhoot State Railway(TSR) and this section of line became known in some records as the Nirmali Branch Railway.
As the TSR system developed this section of the line became part of the TSR ‘BachhwaraBachhwara-Bagaha Branch’ Branch
The railway, and all of the Tirhoot State Railway(TSR), was worked by Bengal and North-Western Railway(B&NWR) as part of the B&NWR system
