Dhoraji Town Tramway

The Imperial Gazetteer of India for 1908 reports ‘Dhoraji, a fortified town in the State of Gondal, Bombay on the Bhavnager-Gondal-Junagarh-Porbander Railway, 43 miles south-west of Rajkot and 52 miles east of Porbander. A horse tramway connects the railway station with the town...’ [1]

With the arrival of the railways a new part of the Dhoraji town, between the railway station and the old town was designed using axial planning, having broad avenues, road junctions, parks, bazaars and public buildings. It is a good example of urban planning of an Indian town during British Raj [2]
