Lieutenant Colonel Sir Francis Edward Younghusband, KCSI, KCIE (1863 – 1942) was a British Army officer, explorer, and writer. He was born in Murree but educated in England and commissioned in the 1st King's Dragoon Guards. He explored Manchuria, crossed the Gobi Desert and pioneered a route from Kashgar to India. In 1889 he explored north of Ladakh in the Karakoram mountains. In 1895 he was the Times special correspondent in the Chitral Campaign. In 1903-1903 he led the British Tibet Expedition. He wrote several books on spiritual subjects.
