Major-General Sir John Malcolm (1769-1833) was an East India Company soldier and statesman who came to India in 1782 as a cadet. He served in the 3rd Mysore War and the 4th Mysore War and held various diplomatic posts. He was Ambassador to Persia, Resident of Gwalior and Governor of Bombay.
