Murshidabad was a large town in Murshidabad District in the Rajshahi division of Bengal during the British period.

It was the old capital of Bengal, before Calcutta became the capital.

C 1834[1] it was the one of the four locations of invalided European Veterans in Bengal (the others being Buxar, Chunar and Monghyr.) These men probably belonged to a Veterans' Battalion, similar to the Carnatic European Veteran Battalion in Madras Presidency.
