Bifurcation
A zone of Indian Railways (IR), formed on 14 April 1952 from the merger of the [[Oudh and Tirhut Railway]], the [[Assam Railway]] and the Kanpur-Achnera section of the [[Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway]].
 
 
== Bifurcation ==
On 15 January 1958, ‘North Eastern Railway’ was split into two zones, with what had been the ‘[[Assam Railway]]’ and the ‘[[Darjeeling-Himalayan Railway]]’ becoming the ‘[[Northeast Frontier Railway]]’, and the remainder left as ‘North Eastern Railway’.
