 '''Punjab''' was a British province referred to the areas between 1849 the five rivers which were Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas and Sutlej and 1947 that was part which were the territory of the [[Bengal Presidency]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikh_Empire Sikh Empire]. The present Punjab region covers the area of the two modern states of the same name (one on each side of the India-Pakistan border) as well as the Indian state of Haryana. At one time it also included the [[North West Frontier Province]] (until 1901) and [[Delhi]].
==History==
The entire province Following the [[2nd Sikh War]] the Punjab was annexed by the British in 1849 and became part of British India in 1849 after the [[2nd Sikh WarBengal Presidency]].  In 1901, Lord Curzon, authorised the creation of a new province out division of Punjab. The [[North West Frontier Province ]] was formed created with 5 five districts: Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Hazara, Kohat and Peshawar, of the old provincefive agencies.  [[Delhi ]] was separated to form part of become the new capital. The remaining parts part of Punjab formed a separate province which was subsequently partitioned between [[India]] and [[Pakistan]] in 1947.
