This was part of the Events at Lucknow during the Indian Mutiny

Summary

Following the success at Secundra Bagh and La Martiniere Colin Campbell's force pressed on and reached the Residency compound. It was decided to abandon the city and the evacuation began on 19 November. James Outram with 4,000 men was left to hold the Alambagh and Campbell reached Cawnpore on 27 November.
