The Tanjore station is on the [[South Indian Railway]] [[Rail_gauge#Metre_Gauge|metre gauge (MG)]] '[[Madras-Tuticorin Mainline]]' and a junction with the '[[Nagore Branch Line]]' to [[Negapatam]] and [[Nagore]] on the coast, 53 miles(84km) . There is also the '[[Pulliarpati Quarry Branch Line]]', 4½ miles(7km) from Tanjore to the Pulliarpet Quarry.
