1689 raised in Enniskillen as James Wynne's Regiment of Dragoons
1751 formally titled the 5th Regiment of Dragoons
1788 renamed the 5th Royal Irish Dragoons
1799 suspected of treachery and disbanded
1858 reformed as the 5th (or Royal Irish) Regiment of Dragoons
1861 renamed the 5th (or Royal Irish) Lancers
1922 amalgamated with the 16th The Queen's Lancers to become 16th/5th Queen's Royal Lancers
1954 became the 16th/5th The Queen's Royal Lancers
1993 amalgamated with the 17th/21st Lancers to form The Queen's Royal Lancers

On 1 August 1874, as the regiment was returning to England, 1 sergeant and 6 men transferred to the 13th Hussars ^[1]
