Mysore-Bangalore Railway
The Mysore-Bangalore Railway, opened 1881-82. It was the original section of Mysore State Railway(MSR), owned by the Princely Mysore State Durbar. 86 miles(138km) metre gauge(MG) from Mysore to Bangalore via Chanapatna, constructed by ][Mysore State]], opened 1881-82 [1].
Worked by Mysore State until 1887, then by Southern Mahratta Railway (SMR)..
In 1893 ownership was transferred to the Government of India and worked by SMR until 1907 when it became part of the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway - ‘M&MSR Mysore Section’
In 1919, the Mysore State successfully sought the reversion of the ‘Mysore -Bangalore Section’ and two branch lines, the ‘Birur-Shimoga Railway’ and the ‘Mysore-Nanjangud Railway’ became the ‘Mysore State Railway’(MSR) [2]
