LDS Microfilms for Church Records outside of the usual Presidencies

Note: Microfilm ordering services ceases 31 August 2017. Microfilms are expected to be digitized, and available online, by 2020. Please take this into account when reading the information below.

When a microfilm has been digitised it is also, in addition to the microfilm number, allocated a DGS number, referred to as a Digital Folder number. The latter number appears to becoming the main reference number for a record set.

This is a list of the microfilms available for the parish register transcripts of various European churches outside of the usual three Presidencies. They were filmed by the LDS (Mormon) genealogical society and are available for viewing by any person at an LDS Family History Centre. The original records are at the British Library in London. For church records of the three Presidencies, see the webpages on Bengal Presidency, Bombay Presidency and Madras Presidency.

This is not an official page of the LDS church. For information on how to use these microfilms to find your ancestors, please refer to the article on Using LDS Microfilms.

Madras Ecclesiastical Returns - Omissions and Corrections 1777-1884

These records are from the India Office Records at the British Library and are included in the digitized records available on the commercial site findmypast

From 1885 to 1890 a check was made of the original ecclesiastical registers of baptisms, marriages and burials with the records at the office in Madras. This record gives the omissions and corrections.

It appears that currently (November 2011) these records are not included in the database on the LDS FamilySearch website,[1], so to view these records, it will be necessary to look at either the original records at the British Library, or to view the microfilms.

The information is arranged by towns.

The Presidency of Madras mainly included the present-day states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

In the index to baptisms, marriages and burials, the volumes are sometimes designated like this :

O pic.jpg or C pic.jpg

The letter 'O' represents Ommissions and the figure is the volume number. Similarly, the letter 'C' represents Corrections. The figure is the volume of Corrections.
