Serves as Assistant to the Collector-Magistrate in the Indian Civil Service. After training an Assistant would have initially been posted to a District Station. After a year the Assistant would go to a Sub-Division of the District. Usually it was a remote station where he is the only white occupant other than the odd planter. His role was magistrate with accounting and treasury tasks along with being postmaster.
