Chronology

  • 1778 raised at Cawnpore by Captain Charles Bowles ranked as 32nd Battalion of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1781 became the 25th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1796 became the 2nd Battalion 2nd Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1824 became the 22nd Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1857 mutinied at Fyzabad 8 June

In 1861, after the mutiny, the title was given to the Alipore Regiment and then changed to 18th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry. This later became the 18th Musulman Rajput Infantry.
