The Worcestershire Regiment

Chronology

  • 1694 raised by Colonel Thomas Farrington with the name of the current colonel
  • 1698 disbanded
  • 1702 reformed
  • 1751 Colonel Peregrine Hopton's Regiment became the 29th Regiment of Foot
  • 1782 retitled as the 29th (Worcestershire) Regiment of Foot
  • 1881 amalgamated with the 36th (Herefordshire) Regiment of Foot and became the 1st Battalion The Worcestershire Regiment
  • 1970 amalgamated with The Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) to become Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment
  • 2004 amalgamated with the 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment and the Staffordshire Regiment to form the new Mercian Regiment
