In 1872, the Carnatic Railway merged with the [[Great Southern of India Railway]].
The Record <ref name= Surrender/> shows that this was the only line constructed by the ITC, except for a "provisional contract with the French Government for making a railway from Pondicheri".

In 1874, the merged companies were renamed the [[South Indian Railway]](SIR).
From 1 Jan 1868 there was a temporary Guarantee issued by the Government of India of 3% of the paid-up capital of £100,000.

Unfortunately, there are no ITC staff records held in the [[India Office Records]] at the [[British Library]].
