Chronology

  • 1818 raised as 1st Btn 31st Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry following 1796 reorganisation when previous 31st became 2nd Btn 4th Regiment
  • 1824 1st Battalion became 61st Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under Major C Martin
  • 1857 mutinied at Jullundur
