  • 1881 raised as the Ceylon Light Infantry Volunteers
  • 1887 mounted company formed as Ceylon Mounted Infantry
  • 1910 became The Ceylon Light Infantry
  • 1948 first regular regiment raised as 1st Battalion The Ceylon Light Infantry
  • 1950 original regiment became 2nd (Volunteer) Battalion The Ceylon Light Infantry
  • 1972 became The Sri Lanka Light Infantry
