Sayyid Mir Muhammed Jafar Ali Khan (1691-1765) was Nawab of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa. It was his betrayal of Siraj-ud-Daulah at the Battle of Plassey which gave impetus to British rule in India and gained him the throne of Bengal. He was deposed for a time, in favour of his son-in-law Mir Kasim, because he conspired with the Dutch against the British.
