Alexander Allardyce (1846–1896).
In 1868 Alexander Allardyce became sub-editor of the Friend of India at Serampore, Bengal. He was on the Friend of India till 1875, having apparently at the same time done work for the Indian Statesman. In 1875 he was appointed as editor of the Ceylon Times.
In 1877 his novel The City of Sunshine was published. A Spectator article said:
- There are competent critics who think that no better story of life in Upper India and Bengal exists.[1]
Although he published other works, The City of Sunshine appears to be the only one with an Indian background.
