Burma Civil Establishments

Date range Record details
1870-1875 L/F/10/177 IOR Neg 57179-180 (LDS microfilms 219 1556 and 219 1557)
C/S, S/L and Unc/s
1 Apr 1870 Offices and Depts are listed in no particular order but each shows the page number on which further details can be located.
Index of Depts/Pages 1-70 - all typical 'A' pages. Typical headings:-
Dept & Date of G.O. Date of Appt for incumbent, District, Name Appt Mthly Sal. (Page1):-
( ) 1 Oct 1867 23 Apr 1863 Tavoy Lt Col G Faithfull Dy. Comm'r 1st grade 1833R
Note:- In Indian Army & Civil Service List Jul 1870 (p.112) and under Lt.Cols in Bengal Staff Corps, his details are shown:-
68th Native Infantry, G Faithfull, date of present commission - 12 Dec 1866; 1st comm'n in Army 12 Dec 1840, now Dy Comm'r
Within Vol 177, (1870) details of officers are shown over pp1-70. On individual pages, names listed in order of salary.
1 Apr 1872 After reference to Dept Index, individual records on pp1-68
1 Apr 1874 As above, but pp1-80
1 Apr 1875 As above, but pp1-96.
N.B. for all, a list of Gazetted Officers is first item in index.
1876-1880 L/F/10/178 IOR Neg 57180 (LDS microfilm 219 1557)
C/S, S/L and Unc/s
1 Apr 1876 When Depts are listed, the first one is usually Revenue. So in this instance, the first item in the Revenue Dept is the district of Akola and the relevant pages in the handwritten index are Akola 1 - 8. The page heading reads:-
Detailed statement of the Establishment of the Revenue Dept of Akola District as it stood on 1 Apr 1876, pp 1-128 (includes ages)
1 Apr 1877 1877 Part I; the Index for this year is an odd one; the first two pages of the Index refer to pages 52 -78 while the next two pages refer to pages 1-52. Other pages fill in using page numbers 79 to the 90s so this is not an easy sequence.
1877 Part II; index shows Divisions/Depts; within each, places are listed alphabetically but there is one numbering sequence 1 -104.
1 Apr 1880 In this instance, look for the Dept or Office and note the numbers adjacent.. These are consecutive so the detail pages are readily found.
Note:- a typical sequence of Depts/Branches follows the 'Heads of Finance' Revenue, Excise, Customs, Stamp, Registration, Judicial, Jail, Prisons, Police, etc.
