Hyderabad was the seat of government for the ruling families of Sind in the 18th and 19th centuries. During the British period it was the headquarters of Hyderabad District and the capital of the Sind division of Bombay Presidency until the 1840s when it was shifted to Karachi. It was the location of a cantonment, with a barracks known as Napier Barracks.[1]
