Nepal Goverment Sleeper Organisation Railway
The railway run by this Government organisation was laid by Martin & Company, Calcutta. It was built under the supervision of J V Collier, who was an Indian Forest Officer who worked in Nepal from 1922 to 1927. The line ran from a sleeper storage depot in the Godawari area to the metre gauge(MG) Rohilkund and Kumaon Railway(R&KR) at Chandan Chauki in India, it crossed the border ½ mile(800 metres) from the MG railhead [1].
The 2ft/610mm narrow gauge(NG) 31 route miles(50km) with a total of 44 miles(71km) of track, had two passing loops, a section of gradient 1 in 75 and seven bridges that were removed before the monsson season. The railway worked betyween November and March,. The 31 mile journey took 3 hours. It is unknown when the railway closed [1].
The trains compprised 21 wagons each capable of carrying 100 broad gauge(BG), so a train could carry 2,100 sleepers and two trains ran everyday through the season [1].
