The Oudh and Tirhut Railway (O&TR) was formed on 1 January 1943 from the merger of the Bengal and North-Western, the Lucknow-Bareilly State Railway and Rohilkund and Kumaon Railways. [1]
On 14 April 1952, the O&TR was amalgamated with the Assam Railway and the Kanpur-Achhnera (Cawnpore-Agra) section of the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway to form the 'North Eastern Railway', one of the zones of Indian Railways.
