The Parlakimedi Light Railway (PLR) was a short 2ft 6in/762mm narrow gauge(NG) line, owned by the Raja of Parlakimedi; the Princely Parlakimedi State. It linked Parlakimedi to Nanpada, a length of 24 miles (39km), the line opened in 1900. The working of the railway was taken over by the Bengal-Nagpur Railway in 1902. [1]
The line was extended from Parlakimedi to Varanasi (16 miles/25km)) opened 1929, and extended further from Varanasi to Gunpur (16 miles/25km) opened in 1931. Bringing total line to 56 miles(90km)
