Periyar Dam and Reservoir Construction Tramway

Periyar Dam and Reservoir Construction was undertaken between 1887 and 1895 on the Periyar River, Thekady, Travancore State. The work was undertaken by the Madras Presidency Public Works Department and required the construction of a dam to create the reservoir [1].

In 1889 2ft 6in/762mm narrow gauge(NG) 'John Fowler' side tipping trucks and track were supplied to the site. Further track in 1892 was for the new quarries and new sidings at Periyar, a second tramway to the dam, a tramway below No3 dam and for extending lines in the tunnels at Thekady [1].
