Major-General Sir Robert Henry Sale GCB (1782-1845), was a British army soldier who went to India in 1798 as a lieutenant in the 12th Regiment of Foot. He served under Arthur Wellesley in the 4th Mysore War and was on the Mauritius Campaign. He commanded the 13th Regiment of Foot in the 1st Burma War. During the 1st Afghan War commanded the 1st Bengal Brigade of the Army of the Indus and led the Storming of Ghazni. From Kabul he fought his way to Jalalabad where he was besieged until he accompanied General Pollock on the Army of Retribution March to Kabul. He was killed at the Battle of Moodkee in the 1st Sikh War.
