Talcher Colliery, was a 'Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway Colliery’(M&SMR) with an output of 156,000 tons for 1935-36, rising to 158,000 tons in 1936-37 [1].

The record shows the 'Bengal-Nagpur Railway' 'BNR Nergundi to Talcher Branch' opened in 1927 [2], this line would have been used to convey the coal from to supply the M&SMR.
