The Tibetans had built a loopholed wall 800 yards long across the pass. At an altitude of 16,000 feet Branders , Brander's frontal attack failed but the Gurkhas turned the blockade by climbing to 18,000 feet and the Tibetans retreated , pursued by the mounted infantry.
