- 1776 raised for service of the Vizier of Oude as 29th Battalion under Captain Young
- 1781 became the 22nd Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1784 became the 28th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1786 became the 28th Battalion of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1796 absorbed by the 2nd Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1824 1st Battalion became 5th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under Major J Nesbitt; 2nd Battalion became 22nd Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under Major J Smith
