Bengal District Gazetteers

Each district gazetteer is in two parts: A, descriptive; B, Statistical tables

The following volume numbers are based on information from the British Library’s Manuscripts and Archives catalogue, where two inconsistencies were noted. Also there is the possibility that this series of numbers is a British Library internal classification.

Some volumes, when republished in a second edition, were published 1917-33 in a series Bihar and Orissa District Gazetteer, and these have been noted. There was a later series of Bihar District Gazetteers c 1957.

The first series was issued 1883-84, sometimes called the Ibbetson series, with revised editions in the 1890s. These series were not numbered.

District Gazetteers of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh, compiled and edited by H.R. Nevill, published 1903-1936. These volumes are available at the British Library

The titles may include the word District. For at least some of the place names there appear to be multiple volumes , A, B, C, and D. There were also Supplementary Notes and Statistics published at later dates, from c 1916 onwards. The titles appear to be as follows:
