Mandya Sugar Factory Railway

The Mandya Sugar Factory opened in 1833-34 under the ownership of the 'Mysore Sugar Company Ltd'. The site produced 5000 tonnes of crushed cane per day [1].

The works is just north of Mandya station and connected to the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway(M&SMR) mainline 'Mysore-Bangalore Section', which at that time was a metre gauge(MG) line. The records show a number of MG locomotives were operational. The mainline was converted to broad gauge(BG), date unknown [1].
