Ryam Sugar Factory Railway
The Ryam Sugar factory was incorporated in 1914 as the Tirhut Co-operative Sugar Co Ltd. The town is now known as Raiyam and is located 15 km north-east of Darbhanga. The factory had two 2ft/610mm narrow gauge(NG) lines operating as a field system to bring cane into the factory:-
- One line, 14km long, to Mokaddampur, which remained in use until the site closed in 1994 [1].
- The other line, 10 km long, to Sakri Junction, a station on the on the 'Bengal and North-Western Railway'(BNWR) 'Darbhanga-Bhaptiahi Branch Line'. This line had closed 'many years ago' [1].
