Walsh, Lovatt & Company was a Birmingham UK based general stores and metal merchants who set up a branch in Calcutta in 1875 with Thomas Acquin Martin as manager. In the late 1880's a large contract for building an aquaduct for the Tansa Lake Project 1886-1892 followed by further similar work [1].

Martin & Company was established in 1892 by Thomas Aquin Martin together with Harold Martin, Rajendranath Mookerjee and C W Walsh to continue with similar work which did not appeal to the UK based company[2].
