'''Major-General James Stuart (17??-1793)''' was a British soldier who came to India in 1775 when he was appointed second in command on the Coromandel Coast. He took part in the [[2nd Mysore War]] and was Commander-in-Chief at Madras. Despite his military success he had serious disagreements with the Madras Government and was recalled to Britain.
