Originally formed as the Assam-Bengal Railway Volunteer Rifles on the 23rd January 1901 and then became the 42nd Assam Bengal Railway Battalion on the 1st April 1917. Became the Assam Bengal Railway Battalion on the 1st October 1920.
- Uniform - Khaki
- Facings - Green
- Badge - Bengal tiger encircled by a laurel wreath ensigned by a royal crown
