Also known as the Dhobi-ka-Pultan (Laundry Battalion) as Captain Byrne enlisted a number of washermen from neighbouring villages.

- 1778 raised as 33rd Battalion at Cawnpore by Captain John Byrne
- 1781 became the 26th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1784 returned to Bengal under Captain Richard Scott
- 1796 absorbed by the 11th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1824 1st Battalion became 16th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under Major E Wyatt; 2nd Battalion became 17th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under Major H Nicholson
